Interview
1) Personally, do you value creativity or work ethic?
"The only way creativity can flourish and mature into anything of substance is through a solid work ethic. Persistence, dedication, and thoughtfulness are qualities I deeply admire. ."
2) Who do you create for?
"Me, myself, and my wellness. Writing is my one purely self-serving and vain endeavor in life. The moment I start thinking about an audience or purpose other than myself is the moment it stops being cathartic."
3) Last song you actively searched to listen to?
"Rejjie Snow’s D.R.U.G.S. Happy memories attached to it. Just say no, though. "
4) Interesting superstitions or rituals you believe in / follow?
"There are cooler ways to sound like a freak than listing my superstitions on the Internet. "
5)Two short term goals?
"I don’t really set specific or material short term goals, but I have some abstract ideals I know I can emulate sooner than later. One, vulnerability. I want to be comfortable with messy emotions and imperfection; I want the ability to always locate success and potential in underachievement — both mine and other people’s. Two, spirituality. I want to have more faith in the universe and allow that faith to structure my perspective and, by consequence, my writing. Deep tings."
6) One long term goal?
"To be in a position where I can substantially contribute to the liberation of disadvantaged women of colour, where I can help them carve out a space for their words. That, and marry rich. I know that’s two, but they go together."
7) Favorite bread?
"My mom’s sada roti. It’s a type of Guyanese flatbread. She throws some garlic and onion in and it makes my life so much more whole. "
8) Anything else you'd like to say to the Internet?
"Views was an incredible album and instant classic. Everyone on the Internet has bad opinions."
